In Memory

"And all things are to draw us home to Thee..."
  George MacDonald

My dear friends,

Just as there are no words to soothe this kind of loss and pain, there are no adequate words to express our thankfulness for the community who have gathered around us for the past many months.

To the countless who have sent us words and gifts of love, support, compassion, and hope, we thank you.

To the many who have been "sitting" with us in our suffering, we thank you.

To those who have been and continue to pray for our family as we walk through this deep loss, we thank you.

I am including below the link to the memorial video that we've been putting together in lieu of a local ceremony. We hope that you will find comfort and hope along with us as we remember the tremendous man Dad was and the legacy that will continue to live on in those of us whose lives he touched.

I want to specifically thank Chandler Fire Department for helping us prepare this tribute.
Norm Germaine, thank you for helping us coordinate all the resources for putting this together.
Chris Broadley, thank you for organizing the pipe and drum portion of this tribute.
To all the members of the fire service pipe and drum band, thank you for coming together to honor my dad. He loved playing with you all so very much.
Allen Blaine, thank you for recording and producing this tribute for us. We are extremely thankful for the many hours you dedicated to this, and it came together beautifully.
Paul, Dan, Mike, Marc, and Dick; thank you for sharing your hearts and memories of Dad. Your words touched us deeply, and we know how much Dad cared for each of you.

Memorial Video

I am also sharing a very special podcast that my brother, Lee, recorded shortly after Dad passed away. He captures so profoundly who Dad was: a beautiful reflection of the love of a good, good Father.  It offers great hope and as Lee said "what it means to have hope alongside sorrow, to find light in sadness."

A bright sadness

With all the love in my heart, I thank each of you for caring for me, for my parents, and my entire family.
And so while death has separated us from loved ones for a time, it will not have the last word. We look forward with hope to the time when all the things that make us ache now, are made well. Amen.

Hold Fast.

  1. Thank you to all who prepared this memorial video. I mostly knew Rob mediated through Katy and Lee. So it was such a gift to have all these windows opened directly into Rob's life through the various people who shared about him. What an impact he had on his community and profession! And the photos at the end illuminated his life, marriage, and legacy in his children and grandchildren so beautifully.

Lee, thank you for the words of truth woven through your reflections about your dad from your podcast episode, "A bright sadness." You honor your father and the Father, and encourage our souls in this life.
